The Iliad

A kidnapped queen, a ten-year siege, countless clashes on the battlefield – Homer’s epic masterpiece brings to life the legendary battles between the forces of Troy and the Aecheans. King Agamemnon and his allies go to war, seeking revenge against the Trojan prince Paris for abducting Helen, the wife of Spartan king Menelaus. With Apollo, Athena, and other gods joining the fray, heroes will rise and fall as the battle rages on, with tragic losses on both sides.

Originally composed around the 8th century BCE, The Iliad tells the story of Troy and the heroes who fought its war. It is among the oldest works of literature in the Western world, with the first English translation appearing in 1598.
