As Good As Gold

The Collateral Project: As Good as Gold – The Return of Real Money By Vincent B. Lanci

The international monetary system is not built on currencies. It is built on collateral.

For decades, U.S. Treasury securities have served as the world’s primary collateral asset, anchoring repo markets, derivatives trading, central bank reserves, and global trade. But that foundation is showing signs of strain.

In The Collateral Project, veteran derivatives trader Vincent B. Lanci traces the evolution of the global monetary system from the classical gold standard to the Treasury-centered financial order of today. He explains how gold once served as the ultimate settlement asset, why Treasury securities replaced it, and how mechanisms like repo markets, rehypothecation, and global dollar recycling sustain the modern system.

Then, Lanci examines the pressures building beneath the surface: safe asset scarcity, financial leverage, and the 2022 freezing of Russian reserves an event that revealed reserve assets can become political tools. –

Looking forward, Lanci explores the growing search for neutral collateral, the return of gold to central bank portfolios, and the possible emergence of a layered monetary structure where Treasuries, gold, and commodity-backed assets coexist.

The Collateral Project offers a clear, insightful look at the hidden architecture of global finance and what the next monetary order may look like.
